I’ve been itching to capture some Milky Way shots, gearing up for a night on the North Shore as the next great astrophotographer. But then Google reminded me to check the moon phase, and surprise! It was a Harvest Supermoon, blood moon, and partial lunar eclipse all at once. Talk about a cosmic twist!

With my star trail plans dashed, I pivoted to the Supermoon shoot at a pull-off near Duluth. When I arrived around 7:30 PM, I was shocked by the crowd, all watching the moon shimmy across the sky. After squeezing into a parking spot and setting up my tripod, I quickly realized my GoPro was more of a hassle than a help.

After a few test shots, I focused on capturing light trails of the John A. Blatnik Bridge. The moon was beautiful, but it wasn’t positioned right for my skyline shot. Once I settled on 4-minute intervals for shooting, I rushed home to work my magic in Photoshop and Lightroom. The results were a pleasant surprise! As for the GoPro footage? Total fail—definitely a lesson learned.

All in all, it was a fantastic outing. Always keep your camera close—you never know when the cosmos will put on a show!

This morning, I set out for a peaceful day of fishing on Sandy Lake, but as it often goes with me, my camera ended up stealing the spotlight. From a tricky tangle with my fishing gear to an impromptu wildlife photo session, the day turned into an unexpected adventure. Sometimes, the best catches aren’t the ones on the line, but the ones captured through the lens.

Spent the day hiking at Tettegouche State Park! The smoky skies didn’t stop me from capturing some great shots of the falls—even if I had to tackle 200 stairs to get them. And the best part? Came back to my Wrangler to find I’d been ducked!
